Description

Role Purpose

To oversee and supervise all Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Construction projects and programs are installed and executed in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) standards in order to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for the employees within the set KPIs, agreed budgets and adopted policies and procedures.

Key Activities

Planning & Budgeting

  • Supervise the execution of the department’s objectives, initiatives, plans, policies and procedures
  • Support in developing the annual budget, including Financial and Human Resources requirements

Facility Checks & Assessment

  • Supervise implementation of inspections and audits as per plan across SANS facilities and ensure that the same is also attended by Safety Specialists and Officers
  • Direct team to develop reports indicating the results of all health and safety checks conducted on SANS facilities and provide recommendations for improvement / remedial action as needed
  • Drive team to conduct awareness sessions to maximize awareness on health and safety activities and issue safety instructions when necessary to resolve safety violations

Incident Management & Control

  • Guide team in developing reports including the incidents that occurred, the facility in which the incident occurred and record the time of the incident
  • Propose methods to manage potential hazardous conditions and practices in systems, equipment, facilities or processes

Compliance Control & Management

  • Ensure that all facilities are complying with all health and safety regulations
  • Ensure that all facilities are complying with all requirements of the law and instructions issued by the Occupational Health & Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) project group
  • Ensure compliance with safety guidelines and the implementation of safety initiatives within SED and MED Directorates to enhance the overall safety of systems and facilities
Policies, Processes and Procedures
  • Support in monitoring day-to-day activities to ensure compliance with stipulated policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems and processes taking into account leading practices, changes in business environment, cost reduction and productivity improvement

People Management

  • Actively participate in on-the-job training, mentoring, and coaching of subordinates
  • Provide clear direction, prioritize tasks, assign, and delegate responsibility, and monitor the workflow.
  • Promote a high-performance working environment embracing SANS’s values.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisal of direct subordinates to monitor their work performance and identify their training and developmental requirements


Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in facility supervision/safety administration. 

Education and Certifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field is required.
  • NEBOSH SS – NEBOSH IG – IOSH – OSHA
