The Project HSE Lead plays a critical role in ensuring that construction projects comply with established quality standards and meet all regulatory Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements. This role involves managing, auditing, and monitoring construction contractors to uphold safety protocols, minimize risks, and ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.

The HSE Team Lead is responsible for establishing and implementing processes and procedures that promote a culture of safety and ensure the smooth and compliant operation of construction sites. Their duties align with GHD’s HSE management system and relevant industry codes, ensuring that all safety protocols are met while driving continuous improvements in health and safety performance.

Responsibilities

  • External Communications: Execute a communications plan within established systems and procedures.
  • Internal Communications: Execute a communications plan within established internal communication systems and procedures.
  • Data Management: Help others get the most out of data management systems by providing support and advice.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace. Identify patterns of risky behavior within the team and take appropriate action to resolve them, escalating serious issues as appropriate.
  • Leadership and Direction: Explain the local action plan, to support team members in their understanding of what needs to be done, and how this relates to the broader business plan and the organization's strategy, mission, and vision; motivate people to achieve local business goals.
  • Building Capability: Develop personal capabilities using existing formal and informal training opportunities, while also coaching others as required.
  • Policy Development and Implementation: Help develop procedures for an area of the organization and monitor their implementation.
  • Project Management: Deliver small- or medium-scale projects while working within an established program management plan.

Experience

  • General Experience: Experienced practitioner able to work unsupervised (13 months to 3 years)
  • Managerial Experience: Experience of general supervision of more junior colleagues (7 to 12 months)
