Job Description

Role Summary:

The Inspector, Safety is responsible for evaluating and ensuring the safety and health standards of the workplace. They conduct inspections, identify hazards, and assess compliance with safety regulations to prevent accidents and promote a safe working environment. The Safety Inspector works closely with management and employees to implement safety policies, provide training, and address safety concerns.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct regular and thorough inspections of facilities, equipment, and work practices to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  2. Ability to provide checklists and inspection tools for systematically evaluating safety conditions.
  3. Identify potential safety hazards, such as unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, and procedural weaknesses.
  4. Assess the risks associated with identified hazards and prioritize corrective actions based on their severity and potential impact.
  5. Conduct thorough investigations of workplace accidents, injuries, and near-misses to identify the root causes.
  6. Prepare detailed incident reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
  7. Document inspection findings, safety issues, and recommendations for corrective actions in detailed reports.
  8. Communicate findings to management and relevant stakeholders, and follow-up to ensure the timely implementation of corrective actions.
  9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, incident investigations, training activities, and compliance documentation.
  10. Ensure all safety records are properly filed and easily accessible for audits or inspections.

 

Qualification & Education:

Bachelor’s degree in health science, or any equivalent.

Experience:

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Health & Safety, preferably in steel rolling mills or seamless pipe mills.

Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA standards and their equivalents in other regions.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific safety standards and best practices.
  • Ability to thoroughly examine and identify potential hazards, unsafe practices, and compliance issues.
  • Proven skill in maintaining accurate and detailed safety records, reports, and documentation.
  • Proficiency in assessing the risks associated with identified hazards and determining the appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ability to analyze complex safety issues, investigate root causes, and develop effective solutions.
  • Strong written communication skills in preparing clear, comprehensive inspection reports and safety documentation.
  • Effective verbal communication skills for leading safety training sessions and workshops, and for interacting with both employees and management.
